Wonder Woman 1984 Blu-Ray Release Date Revealed

Wonder Woman 1984's VOD, DVD, and Blu-Ray release date has been revealed after the film left HBO Max at the end of January.

Wonder Woman 1984's at-home release dates have been revealed. The Wonder Woman sequel premiered on HBO Max and in theaters on Christmas Day 2020, the first of Warner Bros. upcoming slate to follow this release plan. The decision to do so resulted in Wonder Woman 1984 becoming the most streamed film over the holiday. The film was watched for more than 2.5 billion minutes the streaming service, blowing expectations out of the water.

Wonder Woman 1984 also helped HBO Max surpass 40 million subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2020. Now Warner Bros. is gearing up to release more of their films on HBO Max - this month saw the release of crime thriller The Little Things, with Oscar hopeful Judas and the Black Messiah up next. Godzilla vs Kong is also slated to hit the streamer in March, just a few short days after the streamer releases the long awaited Snyder Cut of 2017 film Justice League. WB's theatrical releases are only available on HBO Max for a month after its release and now we finally have a time frame for when viewers can expect to see the films at home after their streaming debut.

Warner Bros. announced that Wonder Woman 1984 will hit PVOD on Friday, February 12 for $19.99. The rental will last for 48 hours. On March 16, the film will be available to own digitally from select retailers, likely at the same price as the aforementioned rental, although no specific amount was given. Finally, Wonder Woman 1984 will hit Blu-Ray, 4K, and DVD on March 30.

Wonder Woman 1984's at home release gives a peek to how long WB will be waiting to release films on DVD after their run on HBO Max. The film was taken off of HBO Max on January 24, meaning the studio is at least looking to continue the momentum of a somewhat traditional release (at least in these COVID times) by having viewers pay a premium price for the film until its digital release. The typical 90-day theatrical exclusivity window has been in flux since the start of the pandemic and that continues to be evident with this latest move.

Although an actual physical release for Wonder Woman 1984 lands just outside of the 90-day window, the film will still be available for purchase digitally before that window will typically be up. Wonder Woman 1984 may have done well at the box office for the time it was released, but WB is likely still looking to capitalize on the film as much as they can. The film's box office take sits around $150 million globally, still well under its reported $200 million budget. Much of that will have to be made up with at-home releases, which explains Wonder Woman 1984's premium price on VOD for the foreseeable future.
