Can Ayra Starr Cover The Tiwa Savage Vacancy In Mavin Record?

Nearly two years after losing Tiwa Savage to Universal Records, Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy signs a new singer Ayra Starr to join Di'Ja as the only female performing artists on the label.

Tiwa Savage released three projects on her seven years career under Mavin records. The projects include an EP Sugarcane released in 2017 and two albums; Once Upon A Time (2013) and R.E.D (2015). Tiwa Savage released these projects under Mavin records with an exclusive license to her own imprint 323 Entertainment. After leaving Mavin records, Tiwa Savage released a soothing afrobeat record 49-99 under Motown records. She also featured on Beyonce's Keys to the Kingdom, a track she co-wrote and performed for Beyonce's Lion King: The Gift album released in 2019.

Towards the end of 2020, Tiwa Savage released her first major-label album titled 'Celia'.

It was probably after she released her album that Don Jazzy thought it was right to launch Ayra Starr's career. Ayra, 19 is a female singer Don Jazzy discovered in 2019 a few months after losing Tiwa Savage to Univeral records. The young talent recently released her debut eponymous EP. The extended play went on to become the number one album in Apple music Nigeria.

The Benin-born Nigerian singer and songwriter was raised between Cotonou, Benin Republic, and Lagos, Nigeria. So far, Ayra Starr has been likened to Nigerian megastar Tems for her alluring vocals and alternative sounds. Despite the comparisons and criticisms, her new project resonates on streaming platforms.

She covers R$B, Alternative, and trap in her 5-tracks debut of work majorly produced by Mavin records in-house music producer and sound engineer, Loudaa. Like always, Ayra Starr was discovered by Don Jazzy a year ago and has been undergoing tutelage in preparation for this moment. She had some freestyle video clips on her Instagram page prior to her career launch under Mavin records. She is barely 19. Ayra Starr possesses a rare voice. Her ability to control her voice in an extraordinary manner is spectacular.

With so many numbers in her few days in the industry, many are projecting Ayra will be as big as Tiwa Savage if not bigger than her. Though they sound different, do you think Ayra Starr can comfortably replace Tiwa Savage at Mavin?
