Steven Yeun’s Minari Gets February On Demand Release Date
A24's Minari, which stars Steven Yeun and has garnered significant Oscar buzz, will release in theaters on February 12 and on demand on February 26.
Moviegoers will soon be able to cross another major Oscar contender off their watchlists, as A24 announced that Minari will release in theaters on February 12 and be available on-demand starting February 26. The film stars The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun as the patriarch of a Korean American family that moves to a farm in Arkansas in pursuit of the American dream, with Han Ye-ri, Youn Yuh-jung, Will Patton, Noel Kate Cho, and child actor Alan S. Kim rounding out the cast. Minari comes from writer-director Lee Isaac Chung and is inspired by his own upbringing. It's been hailed by critics as one of the best films of the year and is expected to nab multiple Oscar nominations come March.
Luckily, the wait to see the film is almost over. A24 announced on Twitter that Minari will release theatrically on February 12 and on-demand on February 26. The tweet includes a clip of the cast explaining the significance of minari, a vegetable common in Korean culture. In the video, Yeun says, “It purifies the ground and the water around it. To me, that’s Minari. We’re all deeply connected.” The tweet reads, "Wonderful, wonderful! #Minari is for everyone" followed by the release dates. Check out A24's full tweet below:
Minari took home top prizes at 2020's Sundance Film Festival and was named Best Narrative Film by the North Carolina Film Critics Association earlier this month. But the Golden Globes sparked controversy by categorizing Minari as a foreign language film despite it being produced by American production companies and helmed by an American director. The film is certainly in contention for Best Picture at the Oscars, however, and Yeun could make history as the first Asian American nominated for Best Actor.
