Akpororo Defends Nigerian Comedians That Can't Crack Jokes In English

The ace comedian who recently became a father spoke in defense of his colleagues, who many have accused of not being able to speak good English. Akpororo claims that due to the fact that Pidgin is a general spoken language in Nigeria they do pidgin jokes, but when they travel abroad they also do jokes in the Queen's language.

“We do jokes in English. If you want to know if we say jokes in English, travel with that comedian then you would see us perform in English because we have to communicate with people from other countries.”

He also said Nigerians sometimes overemphasize the need to speak English. Using Messi and the fact that he cannot speak English as a reference, he said in pidgin English: “We for Naija too dey over do. No dey kill yourself. Messi don win world best like 5 times but him no dey speak English. Speak the way you can and make your mark”.
