The final 10 episodes of Vikings will debut on Amazon Prime Video this month ahead of airing on History channel. Loosely based on the Norse sagas, the historical drama series tells the adventures of legendary Norse hero Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and his family as he rises to Scandinavian king after successful raids into England. The series portrays key events in Scandinavia in 8th and 9th century CE, detailing the brutal life and epic battles of the time. Created by Michael Hirst, the series premiered on History channel in 2013 and also stars Gustaf Skarsgård, Katheryn Winnick, Alexander Ludwig, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Though initially planned to only be a miniseries, the show was renewed for a second season due to its popularity. It was announced in January 2019 that after six seasons, Vikings will come to an end. The first 10 episodes of season 6 began airing on History in late 2019, concluding with an epic battle between the Rus and Vikings. The midseason finale ended on a cliffhanger, with Bjorn Ironside (Ludwig) stabbed and left for dead by Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen) during the battle, though Bjorn was shown to still be alive at the end of the episode. While fans are eagerly awaiting the last 10 episodes of the sixth and final season, Prime Video subscribers will get a first look.

Amazon Prime Video announces that Vikings season 6's final 10 episodes will drop first on Prime Video prior to airing on History channel. The episodes will debut on Prime Video in US, UK, Germany, Austria, and Ireland on December 30. "Our monumental Vikings saga is coming to its conclusion, but not before you’ve had to chance to watch some of my all-time favorite episodes," said Hirst. "Prime Video will uniquely expose the series finale to a streaming audience first. Prepare to be astonished, and for many surprises along the way. And if you have tears to shed, then also be prepared to shed them." Read the description for the upcoming final 10 episodes below:

As we approach the end of our epic saga, the tumultuous conflict between the Rus and Vikings comes to a conclusion with grave consequences. While in Iceland, Ubbe is determined to fulfill his father Ragnar’s dream and sail further west than any Viking has traveled before. And there is unfinished business in England. The Vikings have established settlements there, and over-run most of the country – except for Wessex. The King of Wessex, Alfred the Great, is the only Saxon ruler to seriously challenge their complete domination. Ivar the Boneless must again face, in battle, the King he only knew as a boy for a final reckoning.

Though Vikings will come to an end after this season, it was announced last year that Hirst is developing a sequel series for Netflix. Vikings: Valhalla will be set 100 years after the originals series ends and will focus on iconic Vikings such as Leif Erikson, Freydis, and Harald Harada, and the Norman King William the Conqueror. Netflix, which does not currently have streaming rights for the original Vikings, has ordered 24 episodes of the sequel series. Additionally, fans of Vikings have even more to look forward to after the series ends, as Hirst is also developing the recently-announced History channel miniseries The Plague Year, which will focus on the bubonic plague during the 17th-century in London.

While fans are likely sad to see the series end after this year, Vikings’ numbers had been declining since Ragnar’s death in season 4. Six seasons is also a good, long run for most shows, and Hirst previously stated that there was no reason to continue the series after season 6 as there was no longer any stories left to tell. While it has not been announced yet when the final 10 episodes of Vikings will air on History, it's exciting that Prime Video subscribers will get to view the episodes early when they roll out on December 30.
