WandaVision Image Shows Off Their Skewed Version Of Domestic Bliss

Entertainment Weekly unveils their WandaVision cover further hinting at the Marvel Studios' upcoming Disney+ project's nearing release.

The new image for WandaVision highlights Wanda and Vision's fleeting bliss as a newly married couple. Marvel Studios' inaugural show for Disney+ reunites the star-crossed lovers following the Infinity Saga, now as a normal couple living in a suburban town. While everything seems perfect on the surface, there is a more sinister element at play in the narrative considering that Vision is supposedly still dead.

Marvel Studios will be exploring new territories with WandaVision which is described as the MCU's take on a sitcom. Aside from its lead stars, the series will also feature Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as a grown-up Monica Rambeau, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, as well as Katherine Hahn in an as-yet-to-be-disclosed role but is believed to play Agatha Harkness. Its narrative will directly connect to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, with Scarlet Witch also set to appear in the Sam Raimi/Benedict Cumberbatch big-screen project.

In light of the nearing release of WandaVision, EW drops its cover for the MCU show. Featuring a happy Wanda and Vision in an old-school couple pose, the image also noticeably warping, as if reality is being torn apart, perhaps hinting at the nature of the world they live in on the show. WandaVision will feature the characters jumping from one timeline to another, with the series mining inspiration from classic sitcoms over the decades. Choosing an image of them supposedly in the '50s/60s makes sense, however, considering that it seems to be where the narrative begins. The trailers for WandaVision see the pair moving to a suburban town and, as they progress in their lives, traveling through different time periods. It's unknown what compels the string of changes, but as the official footage also revealed, Wanda has the ability to manipulate the reality that they're in, so it's possible that she just does it on a whim. This could also explain how Vision is alive with the Mind Stone despite his death in Avengers: Infinity War—something that Hahn's character points out in the trailer.

After more than a decade on the big screen, the MCU is set to offer something very different from their previous projects with WandaVision and that's a good thing. Marvel Studios moving away from the Infinity Saga and onto Phase 4 means that they can take bolder risks thanks to an established brand coupled with a new overall narrative that's not too-beholden yet to continuity. If anything, kicking off this new chapter in MCU's storytelling with a trippy and unique TV show may just be the right opening the franchise needs after Endgame. And while the EW cover has yet to confirm when WandaVision debuts on Disney+, the fact that it's part of their holiday issue means that there's a good chance it'll drop around Christmas time.
