Kenneth Okonkwo is one of the most celebrated Nigerian actors, directors, producers and television personalities. He is also a Lawyer, theologian an entrepreneur, a politician and a Philanthropist.

He was born on the 6th of November, 1965 in Enugu, South Eastern Nigeria, a true indigene of Enugu.

Educational Background

Kenneth Okonkwo did his primary and secondary school in Lagos State. After obtaining his first and secondary school certificates respectively, he proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and emerged the best graduating student.

He later had a Master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Law from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and yet another degree in Theology from the Bible School of Theology.

His Acting Career

Kenneth Okonkwo joined Nollywood in 1991 and rose to popularity in the Nigerian movie industry after he featured the role of Andy in a Nollywood hit movie “Living In Bondage”, a movie he acted as the main character and the much talked about. It is widely believed that the movie laid solid foundation for the movie industry in Nigeria.

kenneth is such an exceptionally creative and talented Nollywood actor known for brilliant interpretation of roles in movies. He takes roles that are challenging and life impacting, highly gifted with lots of experience in the movie industry. Indeed, the success of Nollywood cannot be complete without the mention of this icon. He is a living legend.

Before this breakthrough, Nollywood was not known or popular and patronage was low among Nigerians. The speed at which “Living in Bondage” sold in the country was the beginning of a new dawn in the movie history and development of movies in Nigeria. This positive development in the industry was attributed to the hand work of Kenneth Okonkwo, who received an award as the best actor in Nigeria at the African Movie Academy Awards.

Subsequently, movies attracted more Nigerians to watch their local movies which today have received global recognition.

Kenneth Okonkwo has featured in well over 200 movies including Ripple, Dumebi, Living In Bondage, Helpless in love with my wife, Billionaires Club, The Power of Money, Husband Material, Royal Secret and several others too numerous to mention here.

Later, Kenneth revealed that acting is his hubby just as he worked as a marketing executive before he was called to Bar in 2009. He also believe in taking roles that are challenging saying he is like a consultant for Nollywood and has helped many upcoming actors and actresses to grow and have recognition as a key player in the movie industry.

As a Lawyer, Kenneth owns a Chamber known as Supreme God Chambers. Though a Lawyer, he believes that there are cases that can be settled out of Court without unnecessary litigation.

Kenneth Okonkwo’s immense contribution to the development of Nollywood is not in vain as his work has received global recognition and won several awards including the very few below:

• Best Actor at the African Movie Academy Awards in Port Harcourt in June 2016.

• Most prominent actor in Nigeria at the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards

• Best actor in a leading role at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2015.

Kenneth Personal Life

Kenneth married to Ogechi, his first wife but unfortunately union ended in divorce. He again married Ifeoma Okonkwo in 2007 and the marriage is blessed with a son after nine years of waiting.

The divorce of Ogechi generated lots of controversies ranging from issues arising from he, Okonkwo’s temper as the cause of the break. But he argued that he was calm and collected. Others say for the love of money, Okonkwo earlier on married Ogechi, considering the fact that she is from a wealth home.

Responding, Kenneth was angered by that word saying he also emerged from rich home with a number of degrees to his credit and he believed were enough to take care of his family and attend to other needs that might arise in life.

In Politics, Kenneth is politically inclined as he declared his intention to run for the office of a governor of Enugu State in 2019 and was confident in winning considering his popularity, fame, a belief that is quite different and unimaginable in Nigerian politics. That dream is yet to materialise in his life.
