Movies Can Raise National Revenue - Veteran Entertainer

A veteran entertainer, Mr Titilope Alade-Bamgbala, Chief Executive Officer, Happyboys Entertainment, on Thursday said the movie industry could be used to raise national revenue.

Alade-Bamgbala told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the movie industry could serve as a veritable tool for transformation of the country.

“Movies all over the world have been used as major instruments for attaining transformation.

“Film production should be utilised as an instrument of development and not merely for entertainment,’’ he said.

He noted that movie production in the country had promoted more of cultural values and entertainment.

Alade-Bamgbala suggested that efforts movie producers should move to produce movies that would inform, educate and provide advice on how the nation could grow meaningfully.

“Film makers must tailor movies produced to foster economic, cultural and socio-political consciousness of the people so as to give a voice on how best to increase development,’’ he said.

He decried the non-exploitation of movies as a veritable source of revenue for development.

“It has been neglected by nearly all the governments in Nigeria, but it was more deliberately exploited by the colonial administration to accelerate development in their various colonies,’’ he told NAN.

He called on the film industry to produce movies that bordered on national interest.

“My organisation has groomed and trained more than 33 youths on film production, therefore, other stakeholders should emulate such an idea to develop the industry,’’ he said.

Alade-Bamgbala said that the synergy between government and stakeholders in the industry would enable movie producers to key into government policies on transformation and nation building. (NAN)
