DC’s Peacemaker Show Brings Back Another Suicide Squad 2 Character

The Peacemaker TV show for HBO Max starring John Cena is bringing back another character from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad played by Steve Agee.

John Cena's Peacemaker HBO Max series is bringing back another cast member from The Suicide Squad. The Suicide Squad franchise will be reinvented in 2021 with the release of James Gunn's movie. After the financial success but critical disappointment that the first movie was, The Suicide Squad will introduce a mostly new cast of characters. One of them is John Cena as Peacemaker, a man who loves peace so much he'll do anything to preserve it, including killing those who stand in his way.

Even though there has yet to even be a proper trailer for The Suicide Squad, Gunn is already working on a spinoff. It was recently announced that a Peacemaker TV show is in the works for HBO Max. Gunn is writing all eight episodes of the series and will direct multiple of them. The series will bring Cena back to star and explore the character's origins, leading many to assume that Peacemaker will be a prequel to The Suicide Squad. This could allow the show to set up the movie, and we now know of another cast member from the movie who is returning.

As reported by Deadline, Steve Agee is set to return for Peacemaker after appearing in The Suicide Squad. Agee performed the motion-capture for King Shark in The Suicide Squad, but he also has a second role as John Economos, a warden at Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary. He is set to play Economos again in Peacemaker, not King Shark, according to this report.

Agee has a close relationship with Gunn, so his return for Peacemaker shouldn't come as too big of a surprise. He recently appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and will now play dual roles in The Suicide Squad. This announcement comes after Gunn previously said that other characters from The Suicide Squad will appear in the show. It now appears that one of those returnees is known but Agee might not be the last.

The return of Agee as Economos is an intriguing detail to get at this stage of Peacemaker's development. While we might not know what his fate is in The Suicide Squad, the fact that he works at Belle Reve is notable. His appearance in Peacemaker indicates that Peacemaker could be locked up in the prison at some point during the series. If the show takes place before the movie, then this could mean that Peacemaker will show some of his earlier missions as a member of Task Force X or how he came to be captured by them. If it takes place after the show, though, then Economos might be one of many characters associated with Belle Reve, such as Amanda Waller, who could appear. With filming scheduled to begin in January 2021, it won't be long before more cast members are announced.
