Scarlett Johansson will produce and star in Bride, a new sci-fi drama that director Sebastián Lelio is creating for Apple TV+ and A24. Bride is part of the first-look deal that Apple TV+ closed with the acclaimed indie studio A24 in 2018. A24 is already developing movies including On the Rocks, and The Sky Is Everywhere for Apple TV. And now it has tapped on Johansson and Jonathan Lia to produce another film for the tech behemoth under the banner of their These Pictures production company. Johansson had notably scored two Oscar nominations this year for her turns in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. Lelio is best known for A Fantastic Woman, which won the Oscar for the best international film.

As per Variety, in Bridethe Avengers: Endgame actress stars as a woman who has been created for the sole purpose of serving her entrepreneurial husband. But when she refuses to perform the duties she had entrusted with, she finds herself on the run, desperately endeavoring to escape her claustrophobic household. The world, however, perceives Johansson as a monster, making her escape even more difficult. Johansson ultimately harnesses her true strengths, which enable her to reinvent herself as her own creation. Keenan Flynn is co-producing Bride, while Lauren Schuker Blum, Rebecca Angelo, and Lelio are working on the script.

Given the stature of A24's award-winning films, Lelio's unmatched craft, and Johansson's star power, it is easy to predict Bride's imminent success. In recent times, Apple Orignal films including, HalaThe Banker, and Greyhound have successfully earned a reputation for their thoughtful dramatization of concept-based and fact-based plot ideas and A24's upcoming On the Rocks film has also been praised by critics on the same grounds. And as Bride's insightful meta-reference about a woman's journey of self-discovery aligns with the temperament of Apple TV+ films, it will hopefully also be a knockout hit.
