No Time To Die Director Teams Up With Steven Spielberg For Apple TV+ Series

No Time To Die director Cary Joji Fukunaga will team up with legendary director/producer Steven Spielberg for a new Apple TV+ series called Masters of the Air. The Emmy award-winning director expected 2020 to be the year to unveil his biggest film to date, James Bond No Time To Die. But after yet another delay, the film is now expected to hit theatres in April of 2021 instead. However, despite the unfortunate delays to the latest Bond film, Fukunaga is planning his next directorial task, which will see the director return to TV and join forces with Steven Spielberg.

Yesterday, Deadline reported that Fukunaga would direct three episodes of Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air and join on as a producer. The 10 episode series will also be produced by Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone.

Miller’s book, which is titled Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, and it will tell the story of “the American and British boys who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep in WWII.” The show is also a follow-up to the HBO series’ Band of Brothers and The Pacific that Spielberg and Hanks also produced.

The trio of Fukunaga, Spielberg, and Hanks is undoubtedly an exciting partnership for audiences, and considering the critical acclaim Band of Brothers and The Pacific received; naturally, expectations will be high for Masters of the Air. Of course, in addition to winning an Emmy for his work on True Detective, Fukunaga has successfully dabbled in the war genre with his critically acclaimed Netflix film Beasts of No Nation. So he certainly seems like a perfect fit for the new series. Shooting is expected to begin in March in London, a month before No Time To Die will hit theatres. So Fukunaga may very well be in the thick of his next project as No Time To Die is finally seen in theatres.
