Harry Styles Debunks James Bond Casting Rumors

Harry Styles has debunked rumors that he met with film bosses to take over the role of James Bond after Daniel Craig retires. Styles has become the breakout member of the boyband One Direction, forging a successful solo career after the group's dissolution. Since then, he dipped his toes in the acting pool. Styles had a supporting role in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. He has lined up a formidable post-Dunkirk lineup of acting projects.

Styles is set to star in Olivia Wilde's second directorial feature, Don't Worry Darling, alongside Florence Pugh and Dakota Johnson. He is also is in negotiations to star in a romantic drama based on the novel My Policeman. His name has been swirling around the Bond role for quite some time as the end of Craig's tenure approaches with No Time to Die, not set to be released Easter weekend of 2021. His name is one of many mentioned, including Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Henry Cavill.

According to CBR, Styles has debunked rumors that he met with studio executives about the role. This stands in contrast to reports that he was definitively interested in the role. Rumors even swirled that he had spoken to close friends about taking on the part, with people close to him saying that he was "deadly serious" about it. However, reports have also been circulating that Tom Hardy is close to landing the deal, further complicating the rumors.https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/49a14a2d94d9861431e3658207193a50.jpg

If Styles were to land the role, it would be his biggest yet. His role in Dunkirk was relatively minor, and his other films have yet to hit screens. Being James Bond, though, is a huge commitment, one that could complicate his burgeoning solo music career. Craig has held the role since 2006, starring in a total of five bond films. His last film as the spy, No Time to Die, was initially slated to hit theaters in April but was eventually moved to November, before finally being delayed to Easter of 2021.

The role of James Bond is a coveted one, and ever since it was announced that Craig would be retiring the role, speculation has abounded about who exactly would be taking over the part. While many are rooting for a traditional White, British male to take over the role, in line with the past iterations, many are calling for MGM to shake things up. Many fans of the franchise would like to see a person of color or even a woman take up the 007 mantel. While Styles would be one of the younger actors to take over the role of Bond, he wouldn't necessarily be groundbreaking in that regard.

Whoever does end up taking over the role of Bond will have huge shoes to fill. Craig's films have been the most successful yet, reigniting what many had thought had become a stagnant franchise. With so many names in the running as to who exactly will be taking over the role, it is hard to tell precisely where MGM will end up. Styles could just be playing coy, a smart move if the rumors are real, and he is, in fact, in the middle of discussions about taking over the role. Fans will have to wait for MGM to make a definitive announcement, and that could be a long way off, for it most likely won't happen until we get to see the end of Daniel Craig's time as James Bond.
