Crystal Palace Player Ratings As Mamadou Sakho Disaster Hands Chelsea Win

Vicente Guaita: One simple stop to make in the opening half. Could do nothing about Chilwell’s opener, the ball hammered past him from seven yards. Saw Zouma’s header loop over him and was beaten twice by Jorginho from the penalty spot. 5

Kept them mostly quiet in the first half, though Werner did get an opportunity on the counter. Flung himself desperately at Chilwell’s opener but couldn’t get the block in. Didn’t do too much wrong, but saw his side concede four. 5

Cheikhou Kouyate: Alert to clear a dangerous-looking cross early on. Picked up a slight problem during a tangle with Abraham that required attention. Four goals conceded did not really reflect his contribution. 6

Mamadou Sakho: Looked confident throughout the first half, nodding a header wide from distance. His mistake gave Chelsea the opportunity to open the scoring, however. A shame as the rest of his game was fairly good, showing some nice touches to get around Chelsea attackers. Was beaten in the air by Zouma for the second goal, and gave away a second penalty to round off a really poor second half. 4

Tyrick Mitchell: Prevented Hudson-Odoi from creating opportunities in the first half, but was unfortunately at fault in taking down Abraham for Chelsea’s third. 5

Andros Townsend: Was tasked with coming in narrowly to help in defence, allowing Chilwell plenty of space out wide. His set-pieces threatened but unfortunately did not deliver. 5

James McCarthy: A battling performance as Palace kept it tight in the opening 45 minutes. Subbed as Palace went in search of a way back into the game. 5

James McArthur: Made a good tackle to prevent a Chilwell cross early on. Lots of effort, but forced on the back foot for much of the match. A very wayward shot early in the second half. 5

Eberechi Eze: Showed some bright sparks in the opening half, with nice passing. Good link up with Zaha on a couple of occasions. Did not have the impact he would have hoped for up against Azpilicueta, though repeated fouls did see the defender booked. 5

Jordan Ayew: A bit of a passenger for most of the first half, though not for a lack of effort. The system requires a lot from him without offering much in return. Perhaps went down a little easily in a poor area as Chelsea broke for their fourth. 4

Wilfried Zaha: Had few opportunities to get on the ball, with just one shot from distance blocked behind for a corner in the first half, and a similar opportunity early in the second. Was visibly frustrated as the game progressed. 5

Subs:

Luka Milivojevic: Looked to get the ball back and get Palace moving up the pitch but could make no real impact as Palace sank without a trace. 5

Jairo Riedewald: Could make little impact, coming on with Palace already looking beaten. 5
