Jamie Foxx To Play The Role "Electro" In Marvel’s Spider-Man 3

Jamie Foxx confirms his return as Electro in Spider-Man: Homecoming 3. The actor first played Electro in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which underwhelmed critically and commercially. After that movie, Sony changed course and struck a deal with Disney that allowed Spider-Man to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rebooting the character once again. Due to that course of events, viewers believed they had seen the last of Foxx's Electro, but he's coming back.

In a surprising development, Foxx is reprising his Electro role in the MCU's Spider-Man 3, which is geared to start production in the near future. He is undoubtedly the most high-profile addition to the Homecoming series cast, which includes several returning veterans like Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Balaton, and Tony Revolori. The news was unexpected, and audiences are curious to learn more about Electro's role in the film. For now, they'll have to make do with a confirmation from Foxx himself.

On his Instagram story, Foxx shared a post from actor Keith Jefferson (who has a role in Foxx's directorial effort All-Star Weekend) where Jefferson celebrated Foxx's return as Electro. With Foxx sharing this on social media, it's safe to take it as confirmation he'll be in Spider-Man 3. Barring any other late additions to the cast, Electro will likely be the film's primary villain, and it'll be interesting to learn more about the character's inclusion as time goes on. There are already a number of theories about how Electro could fit in, including the idea of a multiverse. Right now, it's unknown if Spider-Man 3's Electro will be the same version of the character from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or a new take with the same actor (a la the MCU's J. Jonah Jameson). With WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness coming out, there are numerous possibilities.

Regardless, it's exciting to see Foxx join the MCU. Over the past several years, he's cemented himself as one the industry's most talented and versatile actors with a number of impressive turns on his résumé. While his initial performance as Electro wasn't universally beloved, there's still a lot of potential for Foxx and director Jon Watts to craft an intriguing adversary for Peter Parker. The Spider-Man: Homecoming franchise has featured some standout villains, with Michael Keaton's Vulture and Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio both leaving their mark on viewers. Ideally, Foxx will be able to keep that hot streak going with a new and improved Electro that makes Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 another worthy installment in the MCU.
