Samuel L. Jackson Returning To MCU For Nick Fury Disney+ Show

Samuel L. Jackson is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a Nick Fury TV show on Disney+. The actor debuted in the MCU during the now-famous Iron Man post-credits scene, becoming a franchise lynchpin throughout the entire Infinity Saga. Jackson reprised the role a number of times over the past decade, becoming a fan-favorite in the process. He appeared in all three MCU movies from 2019, including a key supporting role in Captain Marvel that detailed Fury's days before the Avengers Initiative.

Audiences last saw Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home, where it was revealed he had tasked Talos with impersonating him while he takes a much-needed break and is relaxing on a Skrull spaceship. Since then, there's been little word on what Fury's future holds as the MCU prepares to enter Phase 4 and beyond, but the character is definitely going to be a major part of the franchise moving forward. He's the latest MCU figure to become the subject of a TV show.

Per Variety, Jackson is headlining a Nick Fury TV show that will premiere on Disney+. Kyle Bradstreet will write and executive produce the series, which does not have a production start date or a release date at this point.

Plot details are unknown right now, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Nick Fury show deal with SWORD in some capacity. SWORD was initially teased in the aforementioned Spider-Man: Far From Home stinger, and the organization will have a presence in WandaVision, which premieres on Disney+ this year. Fury being a part of SWORD reads as a natural progression for his character, particularly following the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Though Fury's no longer the director of SHIELD in the MCU, he's still committed to keeping the world safe. Knowing what kind of enemies are out there, it'd be logical for him to head SWORD and stay prepared for the next threat.

Marvel has a full slate of Phase 4 movies on the way, but Disney+ is going to be an integral platform for the franchise moving forward. In addition to WandaVision, the studio has other shows like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, She-Hulk, and more in the pipeline. Similar to Lucasfilm, Marvel is taking full advantage of the streaming service by fleshing out their universe and telling stories that can't necessarily be tackled in the films. It'll be interesting to see how the Nick Fury show will connect to the larger franchise and if this opens the door for Fury to show up in an upcoming Marvel film. WandaVision connects with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so crossovers aren't out of the question.
