West Wing Reunion Cast Photo Confirms Production Has Begun

Bradley Whitford, one of the stars of The West Wing, has confirmed that production for the reunion special episode has begun. The West Wing originally premiered on NBC in 1999 and enjoyed a 7 season run before coming to an end in 2006. The series centered around the political tenure of fictional Democratic President Josiah Edward "Jed" Bartlet.

While The West Wing has concluded for well over a decade now, the cast recently announced that it would reunite to film a special episode. The episode is set to be a staging of "Hartsfield's Landing," one of The West Wing's most critically acclaimed episodes written by creator Aaron Sorkin. The reunion special will benefit the When We All Vote organization, which encourages all Americans to vote in upcoming elections, regardless of political affiliation.

Bradley Whitford, who played Josh Lyman on The West Wing, has posted an image on Twitter confirming that production for the special reunion episode is underway. The photo features him, Martin Sheen, and Dulé Hill in a trailer, presumably waiting for filming to begin. While both Whitford and Hill are wearing face shields, likely due to increased COVID-19 health precautions, Sheen is not. You can see Whitford's sweet #squadgoals post below:

Whitford captions the Tweet with the hashtag "WhenWeAllVote," drawing further attention to the upcoming reunion special. While Sheen, Hill, and Whitford have all been confirmed for the episode - alongside fellow cast members Janel Moloney, Rob Lowe, and Allison Janney - it's still unclear who will assume the part of Leo McGarry, as John Spencer passed away in 2005. Also, Sorkin has stated he will write additional material for the reunion episode as well. As such, while loyal fans of the show will technically be watching an episode that's already aired, it seems that The West Wing gang will have some new surprises up their sleeves to enhance the viewing experience.

The West Wing cast isn't the first to come together for a political cause. Although When We All Vote is a bipartisan organization, multiple members of the Parks & Rec cast, including Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza, and Adam Scott, recently reunited for a virtual town hall to benefit the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. As a result, fan-favorite shows are reuniting to make a more significant push to further political and voting awareness. While such dedication is always important, it's arguably never been more crucial than in the upcoming 2020 election, which is sure to be a bitter battle to the very last vote.
