Awesome Fan Art Turns Spider-Man into an Animated Disney Character

Creative new fan art shows what Marvel hero Peter Parker would look like as a Disney character. Peter is, of course, the man behind the Spider-Man mask. Over the years, he’s been portrayed in numerous live-action and animated adaptations. Currently, he’s played by Tom Holland in the film franchise directed by Jon Watts.

Some of the most notable Disney characters have already been reimagined as Marvel icons. Flynn Rider, of Tangled, has been refashioned as Iron Man. Frozen’s Elsa has taken the place of Scarlet Witch. Kristoff, also from the Frozen franchise, has been both Captain America and Thor. These pieces of fan art relied mainly on aesthetic similarities, such as how both Elsa and Scarlet Witch both use their hands to control their powers, in addition to other unifying traits. But for his newest crossover, artist Samuel Chevé has found the ideal Disney counterpart for Spider-Man, in more ways than one.

The fan art by Chevé makes an excellent case that Ian Lightfoot, the lead character in the movie Onward, could easily double as an animated Peter Parker. With a few key changes, the Pixar protagonist transforms into one of Marvel’s most popular creations. What makes the transformation even better is how it’s clearly influenced by Spider-Man: Far From Home, with an attire strikingly similar to what Peter wore in the MCU film. The obvious connection between Peter and Ian is that both characters are portrayed by Tom Holland, but the similarities go even deeper. Ian, like Peter, is a high school kid that finds himself struggling with the reality that he has immense power. Throughout the progression of Onward, audiences watch as the young elf learns to navigate the complexities of wizardry with the help of his big brother Barley (voiced by Chris Pratt). This is similar to how Peter struggles to juggle a normal life with his heroic responsibilities in both Spider-Man: Far From Home and its predecessor Spider-Man: Homecoming. Another similarity is that Ian and Peter are both fueled, to different degrees, by the loss of a loved one. While the psychical resemblance between the two characters is certainly present, as well as a few shared personality traits, it’s the mirrored arcs which gives the art an added layer of ingenuity.

There are a number of upcoming Spider-Man projects in various stages of development, including the highly-anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In general, Spider-Man has proven to be a very adaptable persona, with his appearances in video games and animated series helping to flesh out the character. Given this positive track record, it would certainly be interesting to see Peter’s world given the full Pixar treatment. The fan art illustrates how, despite the differences between Pixar and Marvel, both studios have gained a reputation for telling memorable stories about unlikely heroes. By placing Ian and Peter side by side, that point is made even clearer.
