Bartomeu Reportedly Considering Resigning
The petition for a vote of no confidence against Josep Maria Bartomeu got more than 20,000 signings against the Barcelona president and his board.
According to ‘Catalunya Radio’, the Barca head is reportedly considering resigning if it is confirmed the majority of those signings are true.
The platform ‘Mes que una moció’ were the ones in charge of getting signatures in recent days. Their objective is to get rid of Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
To get them, they need 16,520 signatures, an amount they have easily surpassed. Those who promoted the petition presented 20,687 signings against Bartomeu at the Camp Nou.
Now, those signatures have to be validated for the process to go ahead. A notary has to check all of the signatures presented are valid.
According to ‘Catalunya Radio’, Bartomeu will consider resigning if it is confirmed that the large majority of those 20,000 signatures are valid. In that case, the radio station says that Bartomeu would step aside so that a new president can be elected sooner rather than later.
Marc Duch, one of those who led the motion, spoke about the possibility of Bartomeu leaving his position voluntarily. “I don’t see him leaving before the vote, that would the desirable outcome, but he has shown to stick in there. Is he considering leaving if the signatures are valid? Well now he can start getting his boxes and folders ready.”
