The Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer Confirms Jedi Threat

The Mandalorian season 2 trailer is officially released. As the first live-action Star Wars TV show, The Mandalorian was Disney+'s flagship program when the streaming service launched last fall. It went on to become a massive success, seizing the zeitgeist thanks to fan-favorite Baby Yoda and earning several Emmy nominations (including Best Drama). Lucasfilm had an idea The Mandalorian was going to be a hit, as they were working on season 2 before season 1 premiered. The Mandalorian season 2 debuts on Disney+ in October, able to stay on track amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Audiences are very excited for The Mandalorian to return, especially since iconic Star Wars characters like Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano are said to be joining the cast. These high-profile additions have been the subject of much speculation since the reports started circulating earlier this year, increasing the already high levels of anticipation for The Mandalorian season 2. Now, with only a couple of months left until the show comes back, Lucasfilm's given audiences a taste of what to expect.

Today, Lucasfilm released the Mandalorian season 2 trailer. Watch it for yourself in the space below:

The trailer focuses heavily on Din Djarin's dynamic with Baby Yoda, outlining their mission in season 2. This time around, Din is on a quest for the Jedi, hoping The Child can find a home with then. That task won't be easy, particularly since the Jedi and Mandalorians are ancient enemies that fought many battles against each other. Additionally, considering The Mandalorian's place in the Star Wars timeline, Jedi are obviously rare, meaning there are no easy answers for Din on his journey. It looks like he and Baby Yoda travel all across the galaxy, with Tatooine being shown throughout the footage. The two also go to an ice planet, which could be Ilum, a world featured in The Clone Wars and Jedi: Fallen Order. That world (which becomes Starkiller base) was very important to the Jedi Order, and was where they went to find kyber crystals for lightsabers. It would make sense for Din to look there given those connections.

Of course, there is one prominent Jedi said to be a part of The Mandalorian. Rosario Dawson is reportedly playing live-action Ahsoka Tano, though that casting has not been officially confirmed yet. It's fascinating Lucasfilm chose not to use legacy characters like Ahsoka and Boba Fett in The Mandalorian season 2 marketing, but there isn't a real need to. As evidenced by season 1's tremendous success, Din and Baby Yoda are big enough draws on their own to sell viewers on the next season of the show, and the studio can save some of the big newcomers as "surprises
