Manchester United Are Considering A Loan Move For Gareth Bale

The Sun newspaper claims that United want to pay £23 million for Reguilon, the 23-year-old Spanish left-back who spent last season on loan at Sevilla.

Sevilla have now turned their attentions elsewhere for a defender so that may give United a free run. Reports elsewhere suggest that United are not willing to meet Real’s £27 million asking price, which feels grimly inevitable given Ed Woodward is in charge of serial underperformance of transfers.

However, Bale is now the focus as they have been unable to agree a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho, with the 20-year-old England international likely to stay with the German club for at least one more season. United are unwilling to pay enough of the £108 million asking price up front to buy their main target of the transfer window.

Instead they are considering Bale, whose £600,000-a-week wages may be reduced if he agrees any deal to come to Old Trafford, and Real Madrid may have to subsidise some of that to get him off their books. The 31-year-old could join on loan, with an option of a further year’s loan should everyone be happy to continue the arrangement.

Real could ask for around £18 million for a permanent deal but given the Welshman’s recent form, wages, and occasional struggles with injury, it seems that United would be unwilling to risk an expensive outlay having been burned in similar circumstances when they took Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

United still have a number of players to sell before the transfer window. Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot could all be sold, and Sergio Romero and Lee Grant are unlikely to both stay on for another season.
