Early Life

Born in Cardiff, to Frank Bale and Debbie Bale, Bale’s family though not deeply rooted in football were no stranger to the sport and held a connection to the sport. His father worked as a caretaker for a local school while his mother worked as an operation manager. His uncle, Chris Pike, played professional football for Cardiff F.C. So when Bale began showing interest in the doors at a young age, it came as no surprise. His interest wasn’t just interest in football but also in other sports such as rugby, hockey, and athletics. His interest in sports was well promoted at his school, Whitchurch High School. 

Bale’s skill in football was ahead than those of his peers. On numerous occasions, this came to the fore. He once ran 100 meters in 11.4 seconds. At another time, his Physical Education teacher instructed him to play football only with his right foot. His skill in football helped vault history high school to success in tournaments, such as the Cardiff & Vale Senior Cup which he led his team to win at the age of 16. While he was in high school, he played for Southampton academy. 

Career Summary

In April 2006, 16 years old Bale debuted for Southampton in the Football Championship league. His performance that season earned him the Football League Young Player of the Year and  BBC Wales Young Sports Personality of the Year awards. His performance attracted EPL club, Tottenham Hotspurs, where he moved to in May 2007, for £5 million. Bale spent 2007 to 2013 at Tottenham Hotspurs. During his time at the club, Bale established himself as not just a prominent player in Tottenham, but also in the English Premier League. His top performance earned him individual laurels.

He was particularly noteworthy in his last season at Tottenham, the 2012/13 season. He thus became the second player in the EPL to win the PFA  Young Player of the Year, PFA Players’ Player of the Year, and the FWA Footballer of the Year Award in a season. In September 2013, he moved to Real Madrid for €91 million, a record amount, higher than that of Cristiano Ronaldo. That fee wasn’t even the exact amount.

In 2016, according to documents released by Football leaks, Madrid paid €100.8 million for the Welsh star. His first season at the club was spectacular. For his outstanding performance, he was nicknamed The Cannon. That season, his remarkable attacking trio nicknamed BBC, he formed with teammates, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, was effective and they won the Copa del Rey, and Champions League. They then went on to win the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. But after his trophyless second season (2014/15 season) at Madrid, he came out along with a very impressive Madrid side to win three successive Champions League titles as well as two successive UEFA Super Cup titles.

In the 2017 season, he claimed his first La Liga title. After the 2018 season which saw him help Madrid win their 13th Champions League title, the BBC trio was dismantled after Ronaldo left the club. Bale assumed the star player as he registered a hat-trick to lead Madrid to their 3rd FIFA Club World Cup title. He received the tournament Golden Ball for the award. In the 2019 season, reports emerged that Bale intended to keep Madrid, but he continued to play for the club, prior to the suspension of the season as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
