It also said that the single intervention would be shoring up its revenue with each local council earning N60 million quarterly.

Chief of Staff to Governor Kayode Fayemi and Chairman, Ekiti State Selection Committee on Special Public Works (SPW), Mr. Biodun Omoleye, said no fewer than 16,000 Ekiti indigenes would benefit from the Federal Government’s project targeted at employing jobless youths across the 774 local councils in the country.

Omoleye, who spoke at the inauguration of Ekiti State selection committee on extended special public works programme in Ado-Ekiti yesterday at the executive chamber’s office of the governor, however, warned the committee members handling the recruitment to shun any unwholesome practices while carrying out their duties so as not to defeat the noble objective of the scheme.

According to him, the SPW is genuinely designed for those who desired the service and not for political patronage or other considerations.

He charged the youths, saying: “Anybody who is not ready to be engaged as unskilled personnel needs not apply for the programme.”

Omoleye said that the intervention would also impact on generation of additional income through multiplier effects to well over 5,000 dependants and indirect beneficiaries.

Governor Fayemi, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, urged the committee members to be fair to all and be ready to work in areas highlighted for the job.

Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Obas, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, commended the Federal Government for the programme and urged the people to be committed to the job to make it a success.

The National Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Chairman in Ekiti State, Mr. Eyitayo Fabunmi, noted that the project selection and structuralization must be key while the NDE Co-ordinator, Mr. Alao Babatunde, urged co-operation of traditional rulers for the success of the programme.

He advocated for adequate inclusion of young girls and physically-challenged in the programme.
