INEC Fixes New Date – April 25 For Re-Scheduled Assembly Election In Cross River

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, April 25, for the conduct of the inconclusive House of Assembly election in Biase and Yakurr State Constituencies in Cross River.

This is contained in a release signed by Sylvester Okey-Ezeanyi, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in Calabar on Friday.

It stated that the earlier announced date of Saturday, April 18, 2015 hereby stands cancelled.

The INEC had declared election in the two constituencies inconclusive following alleged irregularities and violence during the conduct of the April 11 Governorship and House of Assembly polls.

It advised stakeholders in the affected areas to mobilise the electorate toward participating in the election on the new date.

“All political parties presenting candidates in the affected areas are enjoined to educate their supporters to play by the rules and avoid violence during the exercise. The commission wishes to again commend the good people of the state for their role in the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections.

INEC reiterates its resolve to ensure credible, fair and violent free election on Saturday, April 25, 2015 in the affected areas,’’ the statement read.
