Report infiltrators from pervasive COVID-19 states, Akwa Ibom urges residents
Akwa Ibom residents have been implored to be vigilant and report infiltrators from highly infected COVID-19 states to appropriate agencies to check community transmission of the virus.
State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Enoh Uyoh, made the appeal yesterday during a sensitisation tour of Etinan and Ikot Isua communities in Etinan council area of the state.
He regretted that rural dwellers were not complying with the safety protocols of government to check the spread of the novel coronavirus. Uyoh, therefore, appealed to the people to live safely and healthily by wearing face masks and observing social distancing and other hygienic measures prescribed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and relevant authorities.
His words: “I want to thank God for this opportunity to reach out to the people in the rural communities to educate you on the measures government has put in place for all to follow in its effort to contain the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
“I want to advise residents to be careful about people sneaking into the state from highly infected areas. They should be reported to the appropriate authorities for isolation/quarantine before (their) reintegration into society.
“The President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is determined to check community transmission of COVID-19.
“Unfortunately, most people residing in our rural areas do not comply with the safety measures put in place to prevent the spread of the virus due to their belief that the virus is not real.
“I therefore appeal to community and religious leaders should to cooperate with the government by ensuring that citizens comply with all the measures. All suspected cases of coronavirus should be reported promptly to the appropriate authorities.”
The NOA chief added: “This government is not leaving any stone unturned to making sure that all the citizens are safe and alive. Earlier, president of Unique Friends Group, Ernest Daniel, who spoke on behalf of residents of Ikot Esua village, commended the Federal Government for the campaign, appreciating the orientation agency for donating face masks to the villagers.
“We assure the government that we will obey all the measures to prevent COVID-19. In fact, my group promises to spread the message to all parts of our community,” he added.
