Man, 24, Arraigned For Alleged Cultism, Possession Of Weeds

A 24-year-old man, Ogunleye Adetomiwa, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti chief magistrate court for alleged cultism and possession of weeds.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, informed the court that Adetomiwa committed the offence on May 24, 2020 in Ikole-Ekiti.

Leranmo, who said the defendant had confessed to being a member of the illegal Eiye secret cult, also alleged that the police found weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in his possession.

The prosecutor said the case file had been duplicated and forwarded to the Ekiti State Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice, while the plea of the defendant was not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, ordered that Adetomiwa be remanded in police custody pending advice from the DPP, and adjourned the case till June 3, 2020 for mention.
