Kogi State Governor, Bello Speaks On May Salary Payment For Kogi Workers

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has assured workers that they will get their May salary before the Eid-el Fitri celebration.

Bello who spoke through the State Commissioner of Finance, Asiwaju Idris Asiru disclosed this while speaking with Assembly Correspondent on Tuesday in Lokoja.

The payment according to the Governor will enable civil servants celebrate the end of the Ramadan Fast.

“Before the Eid-el Fitri celebration, workers will be credited with their May Salaries.

” Despite the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the State economy, the government has put machinery in place for the effective implementation of this year’s budget”.

According to him, the Kogi government has revised the state Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for this year which he noted has been submitted to the State House of Assembly for approval.

You may recall that the state has a shortfall witnessed in the April statutory allocation, a situation which has sent fears in the minds of the workers over another anticipated slash in their salaries.

This month, the state recorded a 30% shortfall in the current allocation, sending fears into the minds of workers, who anticipate another slash going by the deduction and money’s accrued to the state.

It was however not disclosed by the State Government whether the salaries would still be in percentages of 80%, 35% and 35% respectively as it was paid to workers in the State, Local Government and Teachers in April.

The state net statutory allocation for April was N1,736,231,350.68.

The Value Added Tax ( VAT) and exchange gain for April was N938,018,569.93 and N186,683,266.69 respectively.

We gathered that the state gross statutory revenue income for April is N2,860,933,186.62 compared to N4,078,691,569.91 generated for March as received in April.

The 21 Local Government Areas in Kogi State received a net statutory allocation of N1,517,706,851.32. The Value Added Tax (VAT) and Exchange gains for April iwas N642,963,989.13 and N140,146,959.74 respectively.

Hence, the local Government areas gross statutory revenue stands at N2,300,817,800.19.
