The Director general of Ncdc Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu has raised a serious concern as he disclosed that The federal government may start treating COVID-19 patients at home as isolation centres are running out of bed space
This he revealed yesterday during a briefing by the presidential task force on COVID-19. He said the shortage in bed space mostly has affected Lagos state, however Abuja and Kano are partially affected too.
Dr Ihekweazu also disclosed that the total bed space capacity in isolation centres across Nigeria is 3500 (not enough for a population of over 200 million people).
He said following this shortage, COVID-19 patients may be managed in their houses and health personnel will be assigned to them at home. He also revealed that they are working to increase the bed space capacities in various centres.
