We Want Chibok Girls Rescued Before May 29 - BBOG Group

The #BringBackOurGirls Group (BBOGG), has urged the outgoing and incoming presidents of the country, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari to work assiduously in unison to ensure that the abducted 219 Chibok girls return home before the handover date of 29th May, 2015.

Speaking during a press briefing, one of the leaders of the group, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, expressed the hope that during the transition period, efforts will be made to see that the abducted girls return to their families.

She attributed the success of Saturday’s election to Nigerians’ demand for a free, fair and credible election as well as true commitment and sincerity of purpose by the citizens.

“From this weekend up to yesterday, Nigeria was involved in a presidential electoral cycle that was successful. This is a victory for Nigeria and Nigerians. The success of the entire process was largely because Nigerians placed a demand on the electoral system, and with concerted effort, true commitment and sincerity of purpose from all involved.

“This should be a lesson for all. With this same commitment and sincerity of purpose, we can have our girls back soonest”, she said.

She disclosed that as part of its many plans to commemorate the first anniversary of the abduction of the girls by the Boko Haram sect, the group will effective from Wednesday, April 8, 2015, begin a Global Week of Action with the theme: #ChibokGirls #NeverToBeForgotten which will terminate on Tuesday, 14th April, 2015.

She called on Nigerians and the world to be part of the programme and support the activities of the group in their various communities, cities and countries so as to continue to bring the issue of the Chibok girls to the front burner.

In an interview with CNN, the president-elect, Gen. Buhari, had promised to tackle corruption and crush Boko Haram in two months, thereby raising the hopes of many that the girls will be rescued soon.

He said, “We know how they started and where they are now and we will rapidly give attention to security in the country. And I believe we will effectively deal with them in two months when we get into office. We will be needing the cooperation of neighbouring countries such as Cameroon, Chad and Niger. There were efforts made by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, but it was not good enough and it came rather late.

“We expected the federal government four years ago to sit down with these countries and make sure they did not allow the terrorists free movement across borders, training facilities and movement of weapons”.
