Lagos landlady dies after being pushed by her tenant during an argument

The Lagos state police command has arrested one Lateef Saheed, for allegedly pushing his landlady, 56-year-old Olayemi Adetola-Odekoya, which led to her death during a faceoff in their compound on Apata street in the Palmgrove area of Shomolu, Lagos State on February 24th.

According to reports, their compound had been attacked by armed robbers on several occasions and as part of efforts to prevent the attacks, the landlady and her tenants had a meeting where they agreed to lock their main gate at about 11pm and open as early as 5am. The late landlady agreed to man the gate as no one agreed to take the responsibility of locking and opening the gate as at when agreed.

On the day of the incident, Lateef wanted to go out earlier than the agreed time and he went to the section of the building where the landlady lives and started banging on her door for her to come out and open the main gate. Following her delay to open her door, Lateef allegedly broke it down. The deceased landlady came out in anger and held Lateef's shirt, vowing to ensure that he is arrested by men of the Pedro police station for breaking down her door. In anger, Lateef allegedly pushed her and she fell. She died while she was being rushed to the hospital. Doctors at the Shomolu General hospital confirmed her dead. 

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, said an investigation is ongoing into the matter.
