EPL: Man Utd blamed for signing Bruno Fernandes

Savage said the Red Devils would have sealed their place in the Premier League top-four by now this season if they had signed Fernandes at the start of 2019-2020.

According to him, the 25-year-old has done exceptionally well at Old Trafford, adding that he has been the difference in the United squad so far this campaign.

Man United was in pursuit of Fernandes throughout last summer but opted to sign defender Harry Maguire from Leicester City.

United eventually signed the Portuguese international from Sporting Lisbon last two months.

“Bruno Fernandes has been able to unlock the door when teams are sat in at Old Trafford,” Savage told BT Sport ahead of Man United’s Premier League derby clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

“That is the difference for me. If United had signed Bruno Fernandes at the start of the season, they would have been cemented in the top four.

“He has been the difference.”

He added: “A Paul Scholes and a Michael Carrick are hard to find. Fernandes is the player who has come in and done exceptionally well.”

Fernandes has been impressive for Solskjaer’s side, scoring two goals in four appearances for United so far this term.
