How Serena Williams landed 6th Australian Open title
World’s number one female Tennis star, Serena Williams, has claimed her sixth Australian Open title.
The American defeated the World’s number two, Maria Sharapova 6-3 7-6 (7-5) to claim the victory today, January 31, 2015, in Australia, effectively landing her a remarkable 19th Grand Slam title.
According to records of matches between the two pair, Serena has now defeated Russia’s Sharapova a total of 16 times dating back to 2004.
Williams, already assured of keeping her place as the top ranked female in Tennis upon zooming into the final, won her first Australian Open tournament in 2003. She claimed further titles in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and another for today standing for 2015.
