Director Spike Lee screens Michael Jackson documentary on Vineyard

Director Spike Lee appeared in front of a sold-out crowd at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival on Saturday evening. He was there to screen and discuss his new documentary about the King of Pop, “Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off the Wall.”

In the film, Lee chronicles Jackson’s musical evolution and contextualizes the pop star’s seminal 1979 album, exploring “Off the Wall” track by track.

Lee also screened a moving short film that he made when he traveled with Jackson to Brazil to shoot a music video for his controversial single “They Don’t Care About Us.”

Following the films, the director took questions from the 800-member audience. “Michael Jackson’s Journey From Motown to Off the Wall” is Lee’s second full-length Jackson-centric documentary; “Bad 25,” about the 25th anniversary of Jackson’s 1987 album, came out in 2012.
