Champions League: Juventus’ win over Barcelona means nothing without trophy – Marotta

Juventus general manager, Beppe Marotta, has said that eliminating Barcelona from the Champions League, will count for nothing if they don’t lift the trophy.

The Serie A champions progressed into the semi-finals with a 3-0 aggregate win over Barca and have now gone 531 minutes without conceding in Europe this season.

“Going through is not a big achievement if we do not ascend to the throne of champions.

“We still have two more obstacles to overcome and we have got to do it. We’ve discovered the right mentality,” Marotta told reporters.

He also spoke on coach Massimiliano Allegri’s future at the club. The Italian, who has guided Juventus to back-to-back Serie A and Coppa Italia Doubles, has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Marotta said Allegri “has brought benefits to everybody” and added: “We can’t see any reason to interrupt it.

“He has a lot of merit. The club have supported him throughout and he has shaped this team, making them winners.

“In three years with him, we have reached two Champions League semifinals, and he has had an important role.”
