Manchester United Face Hull City In EFL Cup semis
Manchester United and Liverpool were kept apart in the draw for the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.
United beat West Ham 4-1 on Wednesday night to complete the semi-final line-up and they will take on Hull City, a club managed by their long-time former assistant manager Mike Phelan, over two legs early next year.
Jose Mourinho’s side will play at home first in the week commencing January 9, with the return leg a fortnight later at the KCOM Stadium.
After learning of the draw, Mourinho said: “If the teams arrive here, it is because they put a lot on the competition.
“I am sure that Hull City has an amazing memory from Wembley from last season [in the Championship play-off final] . I’m sure that they are going to try everything to be there again.”
Southampton also made it into the last four on Wednesday, beating Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium, and their reward is a clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool edged past Leeds United 2-0 on Tuesday and they will travel to St Mary’s first before hosting the second leg at Anfield.
