Nigeria’s Olympic players finally get $14,000 each from Japanese doctor’s donation

Each member of Nigeria’s U-23 team to this year’s Olympic Games, has received $14,000 (over N4million) each, from the cash gift donated by wealthy Japanese surgeon, Katsuya Takasu.

The Dream Team VI won bronze – the country’s only medal – in Rio and were rewarded with a donation of $390,000 by the doctor, who became a fan of Samson Siasia’s boys.

Three months after he fulfilled his promise amid many controversies, the players have finally gotten their share of the money.

“The money has finally been disbursed to all the players and they got $14,000 each,” a highly placed source told AfricanFootball.com

However, only the 18 players who made the final list to the games got $14,000 each. Taiwo Awoniyi, Stanley Dimgba, Yusuf Mohammed and Godwin Saviour, who were on standby, received one million naira (N1m) each.

It is believed that head coach, Samson Siasia pocketed the lion share.
