Wenger’s, Guardiola’s style gave Eagles victory over Chipolopolo, says Obuh

Former Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh, has said that the prolific style of play by Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola were the exceptional skills used by the duo of Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho to outshine the Zambia national team in yesterday’s Group B opening of the 2018 World Cup qualifier held at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Obuh, who commended the Eagles for running away with a victory in Zambia, noted that the ball possession style of play by the two top EPL’s managers, which were used by both Iheanacho and Iwobi to score goals for the Eagles, needed to be imbibed by other players in future engagements.

The former U-17 coach stated that for the Eagles to survive other bigger teams like Cameroun and Algeria in the other qualifiers, they have to be patient while in possession of the ball.

He, however, declared that victory against Zambia has given the Eagles enough confidence to win their remaining matches, urging the players not to rest on their oars, as they prepare to challenge Algeria and Cameroun.
Obuh also warned the Eagles not to allow the victory against Zambia to get into their heads, stressing that more task are ahead of the team.

“Iwobi and Iheanacho’s goals were possible, because the players used the game style of Wenger and Guardiola. They both play possession style of play. This style is the ingredient that makes a winning team. Eagles would have defeated Zambia by more goals assuming the players were not in a haste with how they they managed their ball possession. Being in a haste put the team under pressure towards the end of the tie. The Eagles coaches must work hard to correct the anomalies, because we have bigger teams like Cameroun and Algeria to contend with at home and away in the race to get the Russia 2018 World Cup ticket,” he said.
