Yaya Toure announces retirement from international football

Ivory Coast international and Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, on Tuesday, announced his retirement from international football with the West African country.
Toure won the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, with the Elephants in 2015.

The 33-year-old who debuted for his nation in 2004, drop a link on his twitter handle, @YayaToure, where he asked fans to read about his retirement.

He wrote, “Please see statement on my retirement from international football.”

He said in the statement, “There are decisions that are difficult to take. But, I have to pass the baton on to the younger [generation].”

“After 14 years at most levels with the Elephants, I [have] come to the end of my adventure with the Ivory Coast.

“I thank all the supporters, all my fans.”

Toure has, not surprisingly, found himself out of favour this season at City, with new boss Pep Guardiola starting him in just one competitive match.
