FC Robo, two other clubs axed by NWFL

Three Premier League clubs, Adamawa Queens, FC Robo and Confluence Queens, have been dropped from the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).
According to the executive secretary of the league body, Ayo Abdulrahman, the teams failed to honour three consecutive fixtures in the ongoing 2015/2016 season, thereby violating article 4.2 paragraph 1 and 5 of the existing rules.

Four other clubs – Martin Whyte Doves, Capital City Doves, Tokas Queens and Nasarawa Amazons – had previously been axed for similar breaches.

“In the past anything was allowed in the league but this time around we insisted on doing it right and the rules are quite clear and endorsed by the teams before the league takes off so we are merely applying the rules,” Abdulrahman told SuperSport.

“The rules say if you fail to honour three matches such team(s) should stand down from the league.

“We do not want to wait till the end of the season when the damage would have been irreparable.

“How do we secure partners or sponsors to a league when clubs do not honour their respective matches?

“Must we stop the league mid-stream because of individual agitations – my humble answer is no.

“The first half of the league was hitch-free but the second term is the one witnessing teams not honouring their matches.

“We must put our foot down and allow the rules apply to anyone that goes contrary to its provision.”
