Flying Eagles Star Striker Joins Big Club In Italy

Nigeria U20 striker Orji Okonkwo has completed his move to Serie A club Bologna.

The 18-year-old passed his medical on Monday after he agreed a long term switch to the Italian outfit from the Football Academy Abuja.

Okonkwo who had been previously tracked by Tottenham, Roma, Chelsea and West Ham including Serie B side Spezia finalized his move to Stadio Renato Dall’Ara to ward off further interest.

Goal learnt that the contract offer from Spezia almost happened but lately crashed following breakdown in talks over personal terms with the former U17 star.

Okonkwo came into spotlight when he netted a 35-yard screamer in Nigeria U17 4-2 semi-final victory against Mexico at the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup in Chile.

He was also part of the Flying Eagles squad that failed to qualify for the 2017 Africa Youth Championship after a 4-3 home defeat to Sudan.

With Okonkwo’s signing, Bologna have made a huge statement of their ambitions as they hope to consolidate on their 1-0 opening season victory against Crotone.
