Hull stun Leicester City in Premier League opener

Leicester City started their Premier League title defence on the worst possible note, by losing 2-1 to troubled Hull City, in the first game of the new season.
Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez missed great opportunities to score in the first half, before the hosts – who were able to name just three substitutes on the bench – took the lead.

Leicester failed to clear a corner kick and Adama Diomande fired in a spectacular overhead kick.

The first real controversy of the new campaign came early in the second half. Demarai Gray was adjuged to be fouled in the area and Mike Dean pointed to the spot. Mahrez stepped up and scored from 12 yards.

It was Hull who scored next – what proved to be the winner.

Robert Snodgrass expertly volleyed in a loose ball past a static Kasper Schmeichel.
