Enyimba protest Caf late rescheduling of Zamalek clash
The People's Elephants have lamented the decision of the football body to bring the game against the Egyptian outfit forward
Enyimba have expressed disgust over Caf's late rescheduling of their Caf Champions League group clash with Zamalek.
The lone Nigerian representatives touched arrived in Egypt on Thursday evening and were informed their continental clash with the North African club earlier fixed for Sunday will now hold on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian outfit have rejected Isa Hayatou led body late decision, describing it as unfair and against the rule aside stating her inconveniences.
"We are stunned at Caf decision, we got to know about this on our arrival in Cairo on Thursday night," the team's chairman Felix Anyansi reacted in a statement.
"We are rejecting the new schedule date, this is not fair play.
"The information available to us is that the residents have planned to stage a memorial protest for a poor incident that happened last year August in the country and Zamalek have requested for a change in the date of the game.
"This is not fair, and this is not what the rules says about change of date and time for a game.
"The rules says fourteen days notification to the clubs involve in the game, we won't take this and we have rejected the decision.
"We rejects the decisions taken by CAF because it is surely against the development of African football, and not based on any statutory basis.
"Our key players are in Spain for NPFL - LaLiga tour and they are due to arrive Egypt on Saturday evening.
"Well, for the sake of fair play we can play on Monday but definitely not on Saturday," he said.
The Nigerian side are on the brink of exiting the competition and must beat the Egyptian outfit to step up their chances of reaching the next stage.
