Dream Team VI lose to Colombia, play Denmark in quarter-final

Nigeria’s U-23 team, were on Thursday morning defeated 2-0 by Colombia in their last Group B fixture, in the men’s football event of this year’s Olympic Games.
The match was a mere formality for the Dream Team VI, as they had won their first two games and were assure of first place.

This encouraged coach Samson Siasia to make a raft of changes in his starting eleven, who struggled with the fast start from the Colombians.

Their captain Teofilo Gutierrez, pounced on a pass from Diego Pabon to opened scoring in the first half. Pabon himself then converted from the penalty spot late in the match, to ensure his team joined Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

Siasia’s men will take on Denmark in the next round, while Colombia square up against Brazil.
