Saviour Godwin asks to leave Nigeria’s Olympic team

Saviour Godwin has requested to leave the training camp of Nigeria’s U-23 team, so he can join up with his Belgian club, KV Oostende, for their pre-season preparations.
If Samson Siasia grants the 19-year-old permission, the Dream Team VI squad will be reduced to 20 players.

However, media officer of the team, Timi Ebikagboro, has confirmed that William Troost-Ekong and Aminu Umar, will join the rest of the team in Brazil.

“The two players will be joining us very soon,” he told SuperSport.

“We will be leaving Atlanta (United States) by 12:30pm local time on Tuesday for Brazil.

“The Olympics is very serious business and we know Nigerians have very big expectations as far as this team is concerned.

“We will do all we can to make the country proud.”

Nigeria’s first match is on Friday against Japan. Three days after, they will face Sweden, before taking on Colombia in their last group fixture on August 10.
