Chelsea sack Jose Mourinho 'by mutual consent' but former manager would hardly agree

Chelsea announced on Thursday afternoon that Jose Mourinho had left the club 'by mutual consent'.

That seems odd.

The dictionary definition of 'mutual' is: 'experienced or done by each of two or more parties towards the other or others'.

The dictionary definition of 'consent' is: 'permission for something to happen or agreement to do something'.

Chelsea leave 'talented squad' dig at Mourinho in statement
Mourinho's words on Monday night after the defeat to Leicester City, a game that left the Blues just a point above the relegation, indicate that he definitely wanted to continue in his role at Chelsea.

"The only thing I can say is that I want to be (the manager.)," Mourinho said after defeat at the King Power Stadium. "I have no doubts and I think that you know me well enough, six years here, that I am not afraid of a big challenge.

"At this moment, it is a real big challenge and I want to stay. I hope Mr Abramovich and the board want me to stay.

"I know that the board wants the best for this club. I would like the board to analyse the situation, the budget, the balance of the club and what they were expecting."

The Chelsea statement doesn't really compute with Mourinho's words.
