Coach Advises Parents To Enroll Wards In Martial Arts Academies
Emmanuel Chris, a Karate coach, on Sunday urged parents to register their wards in martial arts academies to help them acquired sporting skills at tender age.
Chris told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at a training session with children at the National Stadium in Lagos that such children stand to benefit a lot as they mature.
According to him, the children would learn technique for self defense, self discipline and enhancing the functions of their brains.
“Most parents in Nigeria believe martial arts sports are very dangerous and that has dissuaded them from enrolling their wards in the various martial arts academies.
“Children stand to gain a whole lot of things if they are involved in martial arts sports earlier in life.
“Various news we hear about child molestation in our society are enough reason for parents to engage their children in martial arts to gain knowledge about self defense,’’ he said.

The coach noted that children participation would also boost the growth of the sports at the grassroots, saying that such participation was vital for development.
Chris also said that some of the athletes that had represented the country at major international competitions were products of academies.
He appealed to government and corporate organisations to fund programmes of existing sports academies to make them more effective. (NAN)
