Super Four Reviews: Flying Eagles are champions

Goals from Taiwo Awoniyi, Chidera Eze and Bernard Bulbwa were all the Flying Eagles needed to silence the Nigeria Premier League outfit. Nigeria U-20 emerged champion of the NPFL Super Four tournament after defeating Dolphins 4-1 in their fourth game played on Friday afternoon at the National Stadium, Abuja.

Awoniyi gave Manu Garba’s side the lead after 24 minutes off a pass from Obinna Nwobodo.

The Flying Eagles extend their lead in the 42nd minute through an own goal by Dolphins defender Jonathan Zikiye off a desperate clearance by Victor Ezuruike before going three goals up seven minutes later through Bulbwa.

Christain Pyagbara reduced the deficit for Dolphins four minutes on restart of the second half. Ezeruike and Tijjani Adamu were given the marching order within two minutes for dangerous play.

In the 82nd minute, substitute Musa Yahaya saw his shot come off the crossbar with the Dolphins goalkeeper well beaten.
The Flying Eagles continued to attack their opponents before they grabbed a deserved fourth goal through substitute Eze.
The final day of matches will be played on Sunday with Flying Eagles taking on Dream Team in a match that is of mere formality for the Nigeria U-20 team.

KANO PILLARS 1-3 WARRI WOLVES
Warri Wolves replied critics at the ongoing Super Four tournament in Abuja as they secured their first win with a 3-1 thumping of Kano Pillars at the Abuja National Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The disparaged Seasiders had lost their first three games to Enyimba, Dream Team VI and the Flying Eagles but they were in superb form against the premier league defending champions with a brace from Sikiru Adewale leading the charge
Unsung Adewale began the victory party in the 13th minute when he converted a close range effort after team mate, Emmanuel Omodiagbe gave him a cut back in the Sai Masugida 18 yard box and he added the second goal of the 21 minutes later after Dimgba assisted him with the smportant touch leading to the strike.

Pillars woke up from their slumber in the 41st minute through their unarguably best player of the tournament, Christian Obiozor who netted his third goal of the tournament but his side’s first goal of the tie with Wolves.
Paul Aigbogun’s men went into the halftime break with a 2-1 lead and they increased the tally in the 53rd minute courtesy of Bartholomew Ibenegbu’s goal.
Ibenegbu reacted positively to the inviting cross from Dimgba for his side’s third goal of the match.
Pillars strove to reduce the tally but they met a formidable team in Wolves who were not ready to relinquish their lead as they sought to redeem their image even with only two games to the end of the tournament.
