Police arrest suspected kidnappers of Dangote employees

The Nigeria police have arrested three suspected kidnappers said to be responsible for the abduction of five expatriate workers of the Dangote Group.
A statement released, Tuesday, by the Force spokesman, Don Awunah, said the suspects, arrested between November 27 and December 3 by the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT), have confessed to crime.
The suspects have also confessed to the murder of Istifanus Gurama, another Dangote worker who transported a N5.6 million ransom to them for the release of their victims, the police said.
The kidnap victims were said to have been set free after the suspects collected the money.
The police gave the names of the suspects as Abubakar Gide, 24; Abdullahi Salihu, 22; and Babuga Adamu, 25.
Mr. Gide was arrested in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state, while Mr. Salihu and Mr. Adamu were arrested in Epe Forest, Lagos state and Ajase Ipo Forest in Kwara state respectively, the police said.
The suspects, according to the police statement, led the IRT operatives to Apoje River where the body of Mr. Gurama was recovered.
The police said they have also recovered three AK47 rifles, six AK47 magazines and 160 rounds of ammunitions from Ijebu Igbo Ogun Forest, said to be the gang’s hideout.
The police said they were making effort to arrest other members of the gang.
Meanwhile, the police have advised Nigerians to be careful when negotiating ransom with kidnappers.
“It is imperative, (that) relations of kidnap victim(s) should exercise considerable restraint in negotiating and paying ransom.
“It is absolutely important the negotiators of ransom should have confidence in the police.”
