HURIWA lauds Buhari over jobs for Ocholi’s children

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has lauded the Federal Government for offering jobs to the children of former Minister of state for Labour and Employment, James Ocholi.

In a statement by the National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA called on the Federal Government to embark on comprehensive infrastructural renewal projects across the six geopolitical areas equitably so as to engage the unemployed but educated young Nigerians.

HURIWA stated: “It is satisfying that in this periods of scarcity of integrity and trust especially among the Nigerian political class that President Muhammadu Buhari can make a vow and carry it out within a timeframe that is not only shocking but fantastically uncharacteristic of regular Nigerian politicians who are severely deficient in integrity. The offer of jobs to the surviving children of the Ocholi’s by President Muhammadu Buhari is a step in the right direction.

But let this administration also create the enabling environment for wealth creation by the millions of jobless Nigerian youth. Steps must be adopted to practically provide jobs for millions of unemployed young Nigerians who are already running out of the shores of Nigeria and putting their lives at great risks and endangering the corporate image of Nigeria around the globe”
Besides, the group said government at all levels should start the implementation of urban renewal projects in the states capitals across the country including the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja with a view to pragmatically employing young engineers and artisans on a long and or medium term basis.

The Rights group warned that if no concrete steps are adopted to holistically address the unemployment situation in Nigeria, youths may be encouraged to embark on varying degrees of organized social crimes such as cyber-attacks and advanced fees frauds and such deadly violence like armed kidnappings of people for ransom payment and recruitment into armed cult groups in the state capitals.

HURIWA recalled that the Federal Government had reportedly fulfilled some of the promises made to the children of the late Minister of State for

Labour and Employment, Mr. James Ocholi, who died with his wife and a son in a motor accident along Abuja, Kaduna express road on March 6, 2016.

Two children of Ocholi – Ojone and Aaron – have been employed.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has employed Aron, who is the only surviving son of the late Minister.

His elder sister, Ojone, who studied Business Administration at Covenant University, is currently working with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) while their younger siblings who are still schooling are reportedly to have received scholarships from the Federal Government.
