Dasuki, Kanu: Stop disobeying court orders – Group tells Buhari

A civil society organization, Human Rights Defenders and Advocacy Centre, has berated the current Federal Government over its disregard for court orders.

President of the group, Rose Ameh while speaking at a press conference, on Friday in Lagos said the disregard for court order by the executive arm of government, if unchecked, could lead the judiciary to disrepute.

Ameh called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stopped acting like a dictator as the country was no longer in the military era, saying that it’s regrettable that, “impunity by men in uniform and those in government had now become a norm.”

Noting that Nigerians have started losing faith in the judiciary, President of the group said, “The ruling of the court (including that of the ECOWAS Court) for the release on bail of a
former National Security Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.); and the order for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, were totally rebuffed by the executive.

“The continued detention of the leader of the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, is another case of shameful disregard for human rights and due process. These are indeed appalling and condemnable.”

Recall that despite ruling by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Court in Abuja granting former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki(rtd) bail, the federal government has refused to release him.

Relatively, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has continued to languish in prison despite being granted bail by several courts in the country.
