Reps to meet President Buhari over incessant killings of locals in Southern Kaduna

The House of Representatives on Thursday resolved to visit President Muhammadu Buhari in order to discuss the way out of the reckless killings of locals in some villages in Kaduna State.

In a motion of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Simon Arabo (Kauru Federal Constituency), the green chamber reiterated its call on the state and federal governments to declare emergency in southern Kaduna senatorial district.

While leading a debate which lasted for half an hour, Hon. Arabo disclosed that, “on the 13th- 14th November 2016, heavily armed insurgents in large numbers invaded Kigam, Kitakum, Ungwan Magaji, Ungwan Rimi, Ungwan Makera and Kizipi villages in Chawai Chiefdom in Kauru local government area of Kaduna State, resulting in killings of 43 people (consisting of children, women and men) injuries to many, burning down of 65 houses and others.”


Hon. Arabo also observed that despite the House’s resolution of 19th October 2016 that the government should set up a military strike force in the zone and also set up a military Battalion in Kafanchan; the government is yet to take steps on it.

Speakers after speakers, the lawmakers unanimously agreed that sending emissaries to President Buhari would spur the federal government into actions in tackling the menace of killings in the zone.

While calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend and bring to justice all persons involved in the attacks; the House also urged Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency and National Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to the victims.
